COMING SOON – SELMON EXPRESSWAY TREE TRIMMING AND CLEARING ACTIVITY
Dear Neighbor,
The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) is preparing for construction to improve the Selmon Expressway from south of Himes to east of the Hillsborough River. The improvement will add additional lanes on the inside of the expressway, replace noise walls along the residential area, noise walls to residential areas, enhance 26 bridges including the Hillsborough River bridge to downtown and improve the drainage systems. Construction activities may occur near your property in the coming weeks.
These initial construction activities consist of trimming, clearing, removing vegetation, and in some cases, removal of trees on THEA’s property adjacent to homes and businesses along the Selmon Expressway. We are taking every precaution to only remove trees that are completely necessary to the construction activities themselves. THEA has directed the contractor to work alongside an arborist, in accordance with industry standards and environmentally responsible practices. Tree removal will occur in areas designated necessary for construction of the project, and while performing this work will strive to minimize any impacts to our neighbors like you.
What to Expect
- You may see the contractor on THEA’s property performing the following tasks:
- Project corridor inspection and evaluation
- Removal of THEA’s existing fencing and installation of construction fencing
- Trimming, clearing, and vegetation removal
- This includes invasive species such as the Brazilian peppertree
- Notification of upcoming construction activities which may impact your area will be provided via a door card containing project and contact information
